The Christmas Story as Told by Nephi
Thanks for tuning in for more of the Christmas Character Series. Today's creative story was written by Brother Rich Nath, and Sister Lee Mahl provided the artwork.
My name is Nephi, and the last 36 hours have been no less than extraordinary. Those of us who believe in Christ have gone from the lowest of lows to the highest of highs, almost instantaneously.
It all started five years ago when Samuel the Lamanite prophesied about the coming of the Messiah. He said that on the night before he was to be born, the sun would go down but there would be no darkness. There would be great lights in heaven, so much so that the sky would be as bright as the day. He also said a new star would appear.
As we got closer to the 5-year mark, many began to doubt that the prophecy would come true. As a matter of fact, the level of unbelief got so bad that those who did not believe set aside a day that all of the believers would be killed if the sign was not given. When I learned this, I was beside myself and filled with sorrow. So, I did the only thing I could do, I went to God in prayer.
I prayed with all my heart all day yesterday that God would spare those of us who had faith that Jesus would come into the world as our fathers had spoken. Then, last evening just before sunset, the voice of the Lord came to me and said, "...the time is at hand, and on this night shall the sign be given, and on the morrow I come into the world that I will fulfill all that which I have caused to be spoken by the mouth of my holy prophets."
Sure enough, at the going down of sun, the sky lit up like it was midday. It stayed that way all night, and there was a new star, even as Samuel said there would be. In the morning the sun rose again according to its proper order. What a wonderful sight! I haven't slept, as I spent the entire night and day praising God and preaching about His goodness and mercy to all. I can only imagine what's been happening in Bethlehem and Jerusalem. I sure hope they are rejoicing as we are here.
As for those unbelievers, well, the vast majority of them repented and were converted to the Lord. Praise God! I will never forget these two days, and I can't thank God enough for allowing me to witness this awesome event.
