Spread the Good Word: Psalm 95:1

Today, we're kicking off a new theme for Good Word Friday. For the rest of August, we'll be focusing on scriptures that relate to music and song.

Music is one of God's great gifts to humankind, don't you agree?

For one, music brings so much pleasure, whether you're singing, playing, or listening — or all three simultaneously.

And music provides a way to praise God in a way that we can't achieve with words alone. Music conveys feeling and expression that's tough to capture even in poetry.

Today's verse is one of many that beckon us to sing to God. Think about that for a second. God dwells in heaven … surrounded by angels … singing praises to His name. Why would He want to ruin that perfect heavenly chorus with the banal bray of earthlings?

As with everything else that God asks us to do, it's more for our benefit than His. Making music for the Lord benefits us more than it does our Heavenly Father who requests it.

Have you ever found yourself singing a song of praise to God and you felt your spirit swell with joy? Have you ever really thought about the words to a song you were singing and let those words sink deep into your heart? Has music ever drawn you closer to God?

All of these things are for our benefit, and the only requirement is that our music points to the Lord and glorifies Him.

In what ways does music enhance your relationship with God?

I love singing Songs especially The Songs Of Zion to GOD. It draws me closer to HIM in such a way that I can't even properly describe it. To top it all of, I am by far the worse singer you'll ever hear but JESUS loves it, just another perk of serving The True Living and Loving GOD.
