Every Day Is a Holiday

Every Day Is a Holiday

One of the administrators of the school district where I was recently employed is famous for saying, “Every day is a holiday” when he extends a greeting. The first time I met him he said this, and I thought, “Wow, sheer optimism.” Recently, at a back-to-school rally for teachers, he greeted the staff with “Every day is a holiday, and every meal is a feast.” That was a new twist, I thought. Then, I began to ponder a spiritual application to this saying.

I don’t know about you, but for me when it is a holiday, I get super excited about having a day off from work, especially when the holiday falls on a Monday. It gives me a break in my hectic routine and extra time to complete things I need to get done on the weekend. I sleep better just knowing I have the next day off.

A scripture that comes to mind is Psalms 118:24: “This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”

Well, if I take my administrator’s advice and view every day as a holiday, I would rejoice each day regardless of what the Lord has in store for me. If I view each day as a gift, my mindset throughout the day would be different. Having different meal options at my fingertips in my refrigerator and pantry does make every meal a feast. Thank God, even in times of unemployment, I have never been hungry.

As for a spiritual application, I have made it part of my routine to read God’s word first thing in the morning. I feast upon the word before starting my day, and when I don’t do that, I definitely feel a difference in my day just like I feel when I miss a meal.

So how will you view today? Will you take this administrator’s advice and have the same mindset? In rejoicing in the day that the Lord has made, you will face whatever is in store with the attitude of joy and happiness in knowing that the Lord has made this day.

    Hi Sis Linda

Was enjoying my feast of delicious cup of DD coffee made to my specifications and a warm bagel (not a NYC bagel) but still yummy, as I was reading your blog today.

    What a beautiful day!

Weather in our part of the country is...perfect. It is. It is just perfect.

Because of FB messaging with Bro Chat Young, I am singing Go Tell it on the Mountain and I am grateful for God"s and Bro Chat's love.

I am volleying self-made lyrics to that tune with a work friend who WAS having a stressful day. And now we are chuckling with all the words we can rhyme with pray and today.

Icing on the cake is your blog. Though you are on the other side of the country, reading you blog makes me feel like I am sitting next to you at campout.

Thank you for your gift of words. Have a glorious day.

AND Go Tell it on the Mountain how He loves us!
