A Thanksgiving Gift

For today's Miracle Monday, we're sharing a sweet testimony that Sister Ruth Gehly experienced last year around this time.

Without a doubt, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Gathering with family to share one of my favorite meals means the world to me. There is just so much to be thankful for, especially when surrounded by the love of family.

Anticipating the arrival of our family on Thanksgiving morning of 2016, I awoke very early. Desiring to be close to the Lord and to read scriptures of praise, I picked up my mom’s Bible and began leafing through the inspirational words of King David.

Psalm 92 "…It is good to give thanks to the Lord and to sing praises to Your name O Most High…"

Psalm 95 "…Oh come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our Salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms…"

Psalm 96 "…Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! Sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, bless His name; Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day…"

Psalm 98 "…Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! For He has done marvelous things…"

Turning the page, I came across the word “favorite” written in my mother’s beautiful handwriting.

Psalm 100 "Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations."

Immediately, the presence of the Lord filled my entire being, and it was as if the presence of my mother’s spirit was beside me, declaring this psalm of praise and thanksgiving. Needless to say, I fell to my knees weeping for joy that could not be contained.

Ever since my mom passed away in 2006, I have desired to feel her presence. In seeking to praise the Lord and to remember him in thanksgiving, he blessed me in return by giving me one of my heart’s deepest desires.

We serve an amazing God. Oh, let us always remember to give him all honor and glory — for he is worthy to be praised!
